Albert is a classic dark brown tabby with extra toes on all four paws. He came to HART through fault of his own and is 11 years old. At first, he was understandably sad and confused to leave his home, but he is now relaxed and shows his sweet, loving purrsonality. He is a gentle boy who loves human attention, and catnip toys. You'll usually find him comfortably perched in a cat tree, looking hopefully for some petting and loving attention. Although he came in with his brother, Theodore, we don't feel that they are bonded. (Although it would be really nice to have them go home together....)
Like many aging cats, Albert has some medical concerns, including chronic discharge from his eyes, some signs that he could have kidney issues in the future, and a sensitive digestive system. We manage him with a once a day medication, fluids under skin a couple times a week, plus we feed him a limited ingredient diet of duck. Our Medical Team requires that Albert go to an experienced home and that his adopters has an established veterinarian relationship.
Albert is a wonderful boy who will thrive in a loving, quiet home.. Come meet this amazing kitty in Room 1–he will just melt your heart!

Basil is a cute, 4-year-old tabby girl with lovely gray coloring and a cute, pale pink-orange nose. She was surrendered to HART this past Spring when her former guardian unfortunately could no longer provide the care she needed. When she arrived, she was experiencing significant fur loss as well as chronic vomiting and GI issues, which our Medical Team determined were caused by severe food allergies. Now that Basil is on medications and an appropriate diet, she is doing much better and becoming the outgoing, playful cat she wants to be (Ideally, she would be fed a prescription diet for her allergies but at HART, due to costs, we are unable to feed the prescription diet to an entire room.) Basil would do best in a calm, cat-savvy home with an adopter who is experienced with giving oral medications and who has an established relationship with a veterinarian. She gets along with the other cats in her room, and we believe she would do fine with older children and laid-back dogs. Our Adoption Team will review her specific health care needs with you prior to adoption. Meet Basil in Room 1.

Chris is a very handsome 11-year-old gray & white boy that was returned to HART when his owner had health issues and could no longer take care of him. Curious and observant, Chris enjoys watching his surroundings and is a gentle sweetheart who craves love, especially from his feline friends—he’s often found curled up beside them. When nervous, he paces in leftward circles, a behavior believed to be neurological. Though fearful of being picked up, Chris is affectionate if his boundaries are respected. He also loves to play with toys, either with other cats or on his own
Chris came to HART with Fluffy who is also in Room 5. It would be nice to send the two of them home together, but they can be separated. He is a very sweet boy who adores other cats, because of this, we think he should go home with another cat, or his new home needs to have at least one other cat that is looking for a friend and Chris can bond with.
If you are interested in meeting Chris, please fill out the online adoption application and a team member will contact you to set up an appointment to come in to meet Chris and the coordinator of the Shy Angels socialization team.

Say hello to Crow, a handsome, sleek black kitty with a unique, natural bobtail, who's ready to find his forever family! This sweet boy was found looking for a meal in a Sonic parking lot in Millington, TN, but those days are long behind him. Now, he's safe and sound, and looking for a loving home to call his own!
Crow is an absolute love. While he's not big on being held, he'll happily follow you from room to room, just wanting to be near you and soak up all the attention you can give. He's a wonderfully mild-mannered and loving cat. Crow is also quite submissive with other felines, so he wouldn’t be a good match for a home with a dominant/alpha cat as he could be a target for bullying. He truly is a treasure and will make a fantastic, affectionate companion for a family looking for a gentle and devoted friend!

Meet Figment, one of the fluffiest boy at HART!
This handsome, 3-year-old, Flame Point Himalayan is an affectionate cat who really loves to be around people. Playful and curious, he especially enjoys crinkle tunnels and wand toys. As a kitty who relishes being the center of attention, it must be noted that he is easily jealous of other cats and will stalk them, and thus he really needs to be the only cat in the household.
Figment came to HART with a urinary obstruction. Now recovered and over that hurdle, he is on a prescription urinary health diet to help prevent him from re-obstructing. He also takes a once a day medication to help with stress and keep his bladder happy. Due to his condition, our Medical Team will require that Figment’s adopter is an experienced cat guardian who has an established relationship with a veterinarian, the ability to keep him on a urinary health diet and medication, and regularly monitor his health.
Since he is not a fan of other cats, Figment currently lives in a local foster home, not at the shelter. If you are interested in meeting Figment, please submit an adoption application and connect with our Adoption Team.

Sabrina is a beautiful dark gray long-haired beauty that was returned to HART when her owner could no longer care for her. Sabrina is a very happy, playful, friendly, and very smart kitty. She loves playing with the peacock feather and toys that are stringy and have a toy on the end. She loves to sit in the window and watch birds.
Sabrina makes friends with male kitties very quickly and would benefit either by going home with a male kitty or have a male kitty at new adopter's home. She came in with Tony, who is also in her room at the shelter, but it is not required that they have to go together.
Being the princess that she is she likes to be brushed which helps keep her fine hair in order. She is not a "lap" cat,but does like to be near her owner when working or watching tv.

Breed: |
Domestic Short Hair |

Freya is a gorgeous, dilute tortie and white girl who is about 4 years old. Adopted from HART as a kitten, she was returned to us last year because she was urinating outside of the litterbox. Our Medical Team believes this was due to a medical condition that was causing chronic irritation in her bladder. Since placing her on a medication that helps with both bladder issues and stress, and feeding her a primarily wet-food diet, we have not seen this behavior from her here at the shelter.
Freya looks for attention from visitors and enjoys being petted. She also likes to play, and especially enjoys wand toys and spring toys. She'll carry toys in her mouth and play with them as well. It must be noted that she can be a little sneaky about chewing plastic, feathers, string, and other things she should not eat, so her future family should have a fully cat-proofed house and a watchful eye! Freya will do best in a calm home with experienced cat guardians who will help her acclimate to her new environment. We will require that her adopter has an established vet relationship to ensure her health can be monitored. Our Adoption Team will review her specific needs with you prior to adoption.

What can we say, Goober is absolutely adorable! This medium-haired, orange tabby guy is approximately 7 years old and recently arrived at HART after being found as an intact male stray outside. Despite his slightly rough-and-tumble appearance and somewhat sad expression, he is actually a rather social, affectionate cat who likes getting attention and pets from people. He would love to have a chill home where he can bake in the sun for, say, 14-18 hours a day!
While he is a very sweet cat, Goober also has a scrappy, protective side to his personality. He is sensitive to stressful situations, such as veterinarian exams or noisy commotion, and he can be reactive and even bite when upset. Because of this, Goober will need an adult-only home with cat-savvy people who have experience caring for cats with dynamic, “spicy” personalities. Meet Goober in Room 5.

Jayden is a beautiful, 9-year-old, classic brown tabby girl who came to HART from a rescue partner here in Maine during the Winter of 2022. We don’t know much about Jayden’s past life, or, how many lives she may have used up before arriving at our shelter, but she came in very under-socialized and fearful of people. She still tends to be more comfortable with the company of other cats rather than humans, but she has made great progress, thanks to Our Shy Angels Team volunteers who have been working with her to build her confidence and trust in people. Jayden is a playful cat, and she enjoys playing with interactive toys. She will share her affectionate side with staff and volunteers she knows well, and has even been known to give little kisses to her favorite people, including our Medical Manager--it really is the cutest thing!
Jayden needs a calm, quiet home with experienced, patient adopters who can read her body language and appreciate the spicy aspects of her personality while helping her continue on her path towards becoming a self-assured kitty companion. We feel that she will thrive in a home of her own with a person or couple who really "gets" her. If you would like to meet Jayden and consider giving her a loving home, please complete an online adoption application. Kiki is a large, handsome, 4-year-old gentleman with gorgeous, short white fur and bright yellow eyes who came to HART in May 2025. Kiki is deaf, so new environments can be scary or overwhelming to him, and he is gradually learning how to adjust to shelter life. However, when his room is calm and low-activity, he enjoys coming up to people for pets and flopping on the ground next to them. We're excited to learn more about this cat as he opens up to us. For now, we know Kiki would do best in a calmer household with cat-savvy people who understand his needs and can safely accommodate a deaf cat. Since he tips the scales at almost 20 pounds, our Medical Team recommends gradual weight loss for Kiki through a sensible diet and gentle exercise. He will likely need future dental care to keep him healthy and happy. Meet Kiki in Room 2.

Kippy is ready to purr her way right into your heart! This 12 1/2-year-old, dilute tortie girl was adopted several year ago but was recently returned to HART when circumstances in her home changed. Gentle and friendly, she tends to keep to herself here at the shelter, but she really enjoys being petted and spoken to. She dislikes most other cats, so she would be happiest as the only cat in the home.
Kippy is diabetic, and her condition is currently well-managed with a low-carb, wet food only diet (we feed our diabetics Fancy Feast Classic Pate) and twice-daily insulin injections. HART's Medical Team has years of experience caring for diabetic cats, and they will provide training in diabetic cat care (it’s easier than you think!), as well as send Kippy home with a blood-glucose testing kit, a vial of insulin with related supplies, and a generous starter amount of canned food. Lilly is a pretty, 12.5-year-old tabby who came to HART via another rescue when her former owners were no longer able to care for her. This gentle kitty has a lovely purr and likes the quiet life. She is often seen hanging out on top of high perches or on a cat tree. Although she is not one who wants to be in the middle of the action, she loves human attention and is always in the mood for pets and scritches.
Lilly is a diabetic. Currently, she is not on insulin but that can change. She does require regular monitoring of her blood sugar and needs to eat a low-carb, wet food only diet (we use Fancy Feast Classic Pate). She is also prone to chronic vomiting, and takes a daily oral medication in a “pill pocket” to help keep this in check. We do require that her adopter have a well-established relationship with a veterinarian. Marilyn Monroe is a lovely, 5-year-old kitty with a beautiful white coat with black markings, along with golden eyes and a beauty spot on one side of her pink nose. She is definitely a glamour puss! She came to HART from our rescue partner in Tennessee, and raised a litter of kittens who were all adopted. She’s ready to shine in her own spotlight and find her forever home.
Marilyn Monroe is a wonderful kitty with a goofy personality, but you have to put in the work first! Marilyn prefers to make friends slowly and make sure the people she is with will give her love! She is an alpha female cat, and can be particular about which of her feline roommates she will tolerate. And she'll let you know when she's done with petting. Marilyn would do best in an experienced, cat savvy home with people who can patiently acclimate her to the household.
Like any true celebrity, she only eats the finest of foods and is currently eating a limited ingredient diet of duck and green pea. We tell her it's because she's special, but really it’s to help keep her allergies in check—she is prone to an immune response that causes small bumps on the underside of her chin which, if not treated, could become irritated and uncomfortable. We will require that her adopters have an established veterinarian relationship. Our Adoption Team will review her specific health needs with you prior to adoption.

Nefertiti is very much a 'people kitty'. She loves her humans, but gives her feline housemates a wide berth until she gets to know and observe them. Her favorite pastimes are lounging, being brushed, ear tip rubs and getting chin and cheek scratches, especially in morning and bedtime. Yes, she loves to sleep with you. She came into my foster home, as the shelter had too many cats for her. Nef loves quiet time and could be described a real couch potato....the main reason that her weight needs to be carefully monitored; or she will 'expand'!
She has overcome her hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine treatment, allowing her to eliminate a medication from her daily regime. She is just on a medication to address aging discomfort, but is so easy to medicate, using a pill gun (especially when she is enjoying her breakfast) Through consultation with our Veterinarian partners, we know that she will need to have semi-annual check-ups to be sure all is good. MOST IMPORTANTLY, she has never let any of her health hurdles impact her joy. She wants nothing more than many brushes and cuddles....COME AND MEET HER!

Bonded with Snickers
Oleander is a beautiful, senior kitty whose bright white fur, darling face, and polydactyl front paws really make her stand out from the crowd. Oleander came to HART as a very under-socialized feline nearly 8 years ago from another rescue group in Maine. One of the cats in our Shy Angels Program, our patient volunteers have worked hard to gain her trust, but Oleander has proven to be a tough nut to crack, and to this day she would prefer that humans keep their distance. Despite her strict personal-space requirements, Oleander has learned to be comfortable with people working in her room, and, around volunteers she knows well, she will reveal the playful side of her personality. It's so great to watch her enjoy eating a few treats and playing with interactive toys! She gets along with her feline roommates, and she has formed a close bonds with Snickers, who is also a long time resident at HART. We would love to see the 2 of them go home together. Oleander and Snickers are extremely shy kitties, they are often overlooked by potential adopters, and we know they will need a very particular home environment. However, we also believe their special someone is out there, and we would love for them to be adopted into a loving home of their very own, with patient humans and other non-confrontational feline friends.
Oleander has chronic runny eyes, and recent medical work-ups have indicated that she has renal disease.
If you are interested in meeting Oleander, please submit an adoption application. Our Adoption Team will schedule a time for you to visit with her and speak with Our Shy Angels Program Coordinator, who will also work with you on how the program works and discuss plans on how to continue the program once the kitties go home.

Oswald is a very sweet boy who wants to crawl right into your lap. We are guessing he is about 9 years old. He has the cutest big ears and a very soft, brown tabby coat.
He came to HART in August after being found as a stray living in a barn. When he first arrived, he was in pretty rough shape, and our Medical Team discovered that he had severely matted fur and significant dental disease, as well as diabetes. Since receiving a dental cleaning with extractions and having the mats shaved, he is feeling much more comfortable and looking so much better! His diabetes is currently managed with a low-carb, canned food only diet (in our shelter, we feed Fancy Feast Classic Pate) and twice-daily insulin injections. We will require that his adopter has an established relationship with a veterinarian. Oswald’s transformation has been remarkable, and he has become a favorite among our volunteers. Peaks is a handsome, 9.5-year-old cat who has a bright white coat with orange patches. He is a very loving kitty who enjoys the company of his roommates as well as our staff and volunteers. At first, he may appear to be hiding from you when you try to pet him, but he will soon come out into the room to make sure you see him. Peaks loves to cuddle up on people's laps, and he can often be found sleeping on a bench with his roommates. He also has the cutest silent meow!
When Peaks first came to HART, he had a horrible eye infection that unfortunately caused severe damage to his left eye and it had to be surgically removed. He has since recovered and has adapted well to only having one eye, and his remaining eye is being treated with an antiviral medication. Peaks also has a history of cystitis and inappropriate urination, and he is on wet food only diet as well as medication to help manage these conditions. Peaks has continued to urinate on the walls at the shelter at times, and our Medical Team believes this may actually be a learned behavior at this point.
Since Peaks has some health issues, his adopter will need to have an established relationship with a veterinarian and the ability to accommodate his health needs. Our Medical Manager will review his specific needs with you prior to adoption, and will also confer with your veterinarian to review Peak’s case with them. Meet Spook – The Snuggly Softie with a Big Heart (and a Big Appetite)
Don’t let the name fool you—Spook may have started off as a scaredy cat, but now he’s a total lovebug and the best big foster brother around. This gentle one-year-old guy has helped countless shy kitties come out of their shells, showing them the ropes of how to cat like a pro: play hard, snuggle often, and never say no to a treat.
He’s become especially close with his foster sister Chai, who absolutely adores him. The two are often found playing together or just hanging out side by side. If you’re looking for a dynamic duo full of charm and character, Spook and Chai are a perfect pair!!
Spook is the king of cuddles—he’ll curl up under a blanket in your lap and stay there for hours, purring like a little motor. His affectionate, calming presence makes him the perfect companion for both humans and other cats alike. He’s also amazing with dogs! Spook is calm, confident, and totally unbothered by his canine housemates, making him an excellent fit for a multi-pet home.
But fair warning: Spook is very food motivated... maybe a little too much. He’s known for his polite but sneaky attempts to “share” food that isn’t his. (Don’t worry, he’s gentle about it—it’s all part of his charm!)

Spunky is a total sweetheart of a cat who is just so friendly and affectionate. A true lap cat, she would love nothing more than than a home to settle right into and with people to snuggle! She is a confident yet easy-going cat who gets along with other laid-back cats and who adjusts well to new situations.
Spunky has some medical conditions that our medical team monitors. A medical evaluation revealed that she has a heart condition which, unfortunately, carries a risk of worsening. At this time, there has been very little changes in her condition and we feel it should not stop her from being in a loving home. Spunky also has some back pain that flares-up from time to time. If we could get her a little more active, this may not be an issue for her.
Our Medical Manager would be happy to speak with potential adopters about Spunky's medical needs. Spunky does not let her issues slow her down, and she enjoys life to the fullest, sharing her bright and amiable personality with everyone she meets!
Spunky is currently living in a local foster home. She enjoys sitting in the laps of people under the guise of "helping" with their daily work! We are looking for an adoptive family who will cherish this very special girl, with the understanding that she will require regular health monitoring and care. If you are interested in setting up an appointment to meet Spunky, please submit an online adoption application.
Spunky requires an experienced home and an established veterinarian relationship.

Theodore |

Breed: |
Domestic Short Hair |

Theodore is a handsome dark brown tabby with a few unique features that make him all the more charming—adorably tattered ears and extra toes (he’s polydactyl!) on his front feet. He came to HART with his brother Albert through no fault of his own and is now 11 years old.
When Theodore first arrived, he was understandably confused and sad about his new surroundings. Adjusting to shelter life and living with other cats was a big change, but over time he has relaxed and begun to reveal the sweet, affectionate personality that was always there. While he started off a bit more reserved than Albert, Theodore has blossomed and now delights in human attention, pets, and gentle scritches. He’s also a fan of catnip toys!
Theodore has a common condition in older cats—hyperthyroidism—which is easily managed with daily medication and routine monitoring. He also came to us with a sensitive stomach and had been experiencing severe diarrhea. We’ve since transitioned him to an over-the-counter duck-based diet, which has helped significantly. His future veterinarian may recommend a prescription diet to best support his digestive health. Because of his ongoing medical needs, Theodore’s adopter should have an established relationship with a vet.
You can find this sweet boy in Room 1, and he’d be thrilled to meet you! While Theodore and Albert don’t appear to be bonded, they do get along well and could make a lovely pair.
If you think Theodore could be your perfect companion, please complete an adoption application online. One of our team members will be in touch to arrange a visit. This gentle guy is ready to find a loving home to enjoy his golden years—you just might be the one to give it to him.

Velia is a petite and beautiful young mama cat with soft grey and white fur and a heart full of love. She can be a little quirky—she might give a dramatic hiss here and there, but don’t let that fool you. What she really wants is chin scratches, gentle affection, and a calm, cozy home. Start petting her and she’ll melt—eyes closed, making biscuits, and even standing up on her tippy toes for a good bum scratch! Velia is looking for a dog-free home where she can feel safe, adored, and appreciated for the sweet soul she is.

Vito is a gentle, brown tabby kitty with white on his face and chest, a pink nose, and a permanent wink. Good Samaritans discovered him living in their barn and noticed that he was injured. They finally succeeded in trapping him in the Fall of 2024 and brought him to HART to begin a better chapter in his life. We estimated this battered warrior is about 12 years old. Once in our care, we learned that he is diabetic and had chronic ear infections.
After addressing his medical needs, including having his injured eye surgically removed, Vito has been doing much better and is slowly coming out of his shell. Our Medical Team will discuss his medical needs with interested adopters, and Vito's adopters will need to have an established relationship with a veterinarian.
Because Vito is quite shy, our Socialization Team has been working with him to help him to adjust to a life with people. He seems to be great with all of his feline roommates. If you'd like to meet Vito and help him turn over a new leaf, please complete an online adoption application, and come in to meet him in Room 4.

Meet Wally! Wally is a petite, big-eyed 5.5 year-old sweetheart who arrived at HART in the summer of 2024. Since then, we’ve learned so much about this resilient girl. Wally is blind, likely due to detached retinas, and understandably, she was initially scared in her new environment. But with time, patience, and love, she has adjusted beautifully in Room 5, showing her remarkable ability to adapt.
She relies on her ears to navigate her world and has even started recognizing her favorite volunteers—especially when there’s a Churu treat involved! Despite her blindness, Wally is an active and playful girl. She loves carrying her favorite green toy balls in her mouth and batting them around with pure joy.
Wally would thrive in a cat-savvy home where she can feel safe and confident. While she doesn’t mind other cats, she prefers they respect her space, and might give them a little swat if they get too close, so she might enjoy being the only feline in the household. Because sudden changes in layout can be disorienting for her, a stable and understanding environment would be ideal.
Could you be the one to give Wally the loving, patient home she deserves? 💛

Name: |
Wilma Mae (Aka Baby Girl) |
Sex: |
Female |
Age: |
16 years |
Status: |
Available |
Breed: |
Domestic Short Hair |
|
|
|
Wilma Mae first arrived at HART in 2022. She was placed in one of our foster homes and then adopted, but unfortunately she had to return to our shelter in the Spring of 2024 when circumstances changed and her person could no longer care for her. Now 16 years old, this cute, senior tabby is undoubtedly a kitty who wants everything on her terms. If she likes you and feels safe, she’ll be sweet and sit in your lap to enjoy some gentle attention. She can also be spicy and reactive, and may bite if provoked. She dislikes any form of restraint, and because she has been known to cause a ruckus during appointments with the vet, she sometimes requires a sedative in order to have an in-depth exam. She’s not necessarily a fan of other cats, she definitely does not like dogs, and she is not suitable for a home with children.
Wilma Mae is diabetic, and her condition is currently well-managed with a low-carb, canned food only diet (in our shelter, we feed Fancy Feast Classic Pate), and twice-daily insulin injections. We will require that her adopter has a well-established relationship with a veterinarian. Our Medical Team has years of experience successfully caring for diabetic felines, and as part of the adoption process we will provide training in diabetic cat care as well as send Wilma Mae home with a blood-glucose testing kit, a vial of insulin with related supplies as needed, and a generous starter supply of canned food.
While perhaps not such big deals to us, we know that Wilma Mae’s age, strong personality, and diabetes don’t necessarily make her a top candidate with potential adopters. And while she may require a little more care than the average cat, it is totally doable, and so very worth it. We know her special someone is out there, and we would love nothing more than to see her find a calm, loving home for her golden years. Meet Wilma Mae in Room 4.
